Airbus Defence and Space | Germany: Testing BepiColombo’s Solar Arrays
The client
BepiColombo is a joint mission of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to the still largely unexplored planet Mercury. It was launched on an Ariane 5 rocket in October 2018, with Mercury orbit insertion planned for November 2026 after nine flybys.
Airbus Defence and Space was selected to design, develop and integrate the BepiColombo spacecraft.
The solution
At its Ottobrunn site near Munich, Germany, our long-time customer Airbus Defence and Space developed and manufactured the solar arrays for the BepiColombo mission. To ensure structural integrity, Airbus relied on the proven m+p VibControl system for high-performance, multi-channel vibration testing.
The result
The control software provided reliable, repeatable results and extensive data analysis.
