Airbus Defense and Space | France: RFAN Testing

The client

In Toulouse (France), Airbus Defence and Space Astrolabe assembles and tests civil and military satellites, and also provides consultancy and assistance for the construction of test facilities. Among other facilities, Airbus has a 1,100 m3 reverberation chamber, which can perform acoustic tests of up to 152 dB with its two sirens, on large-scale equipment. A smaller Airbus chamber with a size of 1 m3 is used for testing small equipment, with a maximum sound pressure level of up to 175 dB.

The solution

Airbus chose the m+p international Acoustic Control system with m+p VibRunner hardware in 2020 to control their two reverberant chambers, as a replacement for an old analogue system. Complementing the m+p Acoustic Control solution, the m+p Analyzer software supplied to Airbus Defence and Space enables advanced post-processing of the raw time signals recorded during the test.

The result

Mathieu Fernandes, head of acoustic testing at the Airbus Defence and Space Astrolabe site in Toulouse, explains the reasons for this choice:
"The major challenge was to replace the manual chamber control system with an automatic control system while maintaining the same level of reliability and performance. Among the various suppliers evaluated, m+p offered the most appropriate technical solutions that best met our specifications."
