Rolls-Royce | Germany: High-Frequency High Cycle Fatigue (HCF) Tests
The client
Rolls-Royce Mechanical Test Operations Centre (MTOC) in Dahlewitz, Germany, is a test center for mechanical and structural evaluation of gas turbine components during development, production and service life. The role of the MTOC vibration test team is to conduct structural dynamic investigation of these components. The main tasks performed are fatigue testing (hot and cold), frequency checking, mode shape measurement, modal analysis and dynamic strain gauge measurement.
The solution
The client utilizes the m+p VibControl software for vibration and High Cycle Fatigue (HCF) dwell testing. This setup features advanced phase tracking specifically designed for characterizing components with low damping. Data acquisition tis handled by m+p VibPilot and m+p VibRunner hardware. To achieve HCF tests lor higher modes above 20 kHz, the high-frequency option for the m+p VibRunner was installed.
The result
Implementing m+p international vibration controllers at the Rolls-Royce MTOC has significantly enhanced the quality and stability of HCF testing for engine blades and vanes. Furthermore, the system has considerably reduced required setup times, improving overall testing efficiency.
